Iva Weight Waters
died Fri. March 16, 2001 at Sandy Regional Health Center in Sandy, Utah, at
age 97.
Born Nov. 1, 1903, in Springville, Utah County, to George Albert and Hannah
Leonora Childs Weight. Married Car-rel A. Waters Feb 4, 1925, in the Salt Lake
LDS Temple, a mar-riage which lasted 65 years and produced six children. She
was a member of the LDS church. During her younger years, she worked in the
Primary and Relief Society organizations. Genealogy work captured her
interest, and she spent many years happily researching family lines in the
Genealogical Library in Salt Lake. She also enjoyed singing in the choir as
well as vocalizing duets with her husband. A goiter operation in midlife
altered her voice quality and forced her to give that up. She attended school
at Springville High after which she worked as a housekeeper in private homes
as well as a hotel in boomtown Eureka, UT. She was much in demand to work for
"women in confinement," nurturing both newborn and new mother with
tenderness and efficiency; qualities so uniquely hers that one might think she
invented them. It was while she was employed in this manner that she met her
future husband. The gentle qualities she exhibited while working for others
were soon put to work for her own family. All her life, she was the consummate
nurturer, a gentle, caring mother, always willing and dedicated in this role.
She regarded each member of her family as a precious gift to her life. She
earned the love and respect of all that knew her and became the kind and
beneficent "best friend" to each of her children in their adult
lives.
Survivors include daughters, Marcile Pugh and husband, Paul, Holladay, UT;
Marva Davis and husband, Keith, Springville; Thelma Corey and husband,
Richard, Sandy, UT; sons, Melvin and wife, Colleen Waters, Midvale, UT; Arlen
and wife, Sherlaine Waters, Provo; brother, Woodrow Weight, Springville, UT;
many grandchildren and great-grandchil-dren. Preceded in death by parents;
husband; daughter, Raeona Waters; brothers, Fred, Leo, and LaMar Weight; and
sisters, Bessie Stevens, Ella Weight, Berniece Young.
Services will be Wed. March 21, 2001, 11 a.m., Wheeler Mortuary Chapel, 211 E.
200 S, Springville, UT. Friends may call Tues. 6-8 p.m. at Wheeler Mortuary or
